Volunteer Opportunities at Sondhar This Season

Sondhar is not a place that needs volunteers to do everything. It needs people who can do specific things well, with patience, and with respect for the community they are entering.

If that sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.

What We Are Currently Looking For

Teaching and Tutoring Children need support in English, Hindi, mathematics, and science. If you are comfortable explaining things at different levels — from Class 3 to Class 10 — and have the patience to sit with a child until they understand, this is the most immediately impactful thing you can do.

Mentorship Some children need someone to talk to more than they need a teacher. Mentors spend time with children, ask questions, share their own experiences, and help young people understand the world they are growing into. This does not require any specific qualification — just genuine interest and patience.

Creative Learning Art, music, theatre, photography, storytelling, sports, reading circles. If you have a creative skill and can share it with children in an unstructured, joyful way, there is space for you here.

Digital Storytelling Sondhar has a story worth telling — about the children, the village, the agriculture work, and the daily life. We need people who can photograph, write, create short videos, or manage our social media and newsletters. This can often be done remotely.

Agriculture If you have any background in farming, permaculture, or rural land management, we would love your support on our agriculture revival work. This is physical, outdoors, and deeply rewarding.

Operations and Fundraising Behind every active NGO is a quiet layer of communication, research, reporting, and administration. If you have skills in fundraising, grant writing, donor communication, or operations, there is real work to be done here.

How Long Do You Need to Commit?

Long-term volunteers are preferred because building trust with children takes time. A week is not enough to understand what a child needs. A month begins to make a difference. Long-term means something lasting and reciprocal.

That said, we also welcome short-term and remote contributions when they are genuinely useful — a specific skill, a focused task, a week of intensive teaching.

Who We Are Looking For

We are not looking for people who want to "save" the children of Sondhar. We are looking for people who are willing to listen, learn, and contribute without placing their own need to feel useful above the needs of the community.

The best volunteers we have had are the ones who came quietly, worked hard, asked good questions, and left something lasting behind.

How to Apply

Fill in the volunteer form on our website, or write to us at contact@sondhar.org. Tell us about your background, what you can offer, and why Sondhar specifically interests you.

We look forward to welcoming you. The Sondhar Trust Team
